There is an ongoing issue of not having enough staff for each shift, this is particularly important because the residents are not receiving their contracted care hours. This leaves the company open to liability. This also affects the other staff members morel as they are required to do the work of two or more staff members. There is a very low standard of employees being hired to the company, most of these individuals are only seeking a pay-check with as little work as possible and not a career with purposefully meaning of helping vulnerable adults live an independent and enjoyable life as possible. The reasons for the low standard of employee being hired, I believe to have several components which I will explain below. Firstly, a certain demographic is being sort out for employment who have little to no training in the field of care for individuals with complex health conditions and dementia. In my experience, with only three or four exceptions, from many of the staff at Heron Club, both managers to employee's, if you are gay, black and male your face immediately does not fit in this company and they will try to make you feel as uncomfortable as possible, this is done with a veiled attitude which to someone just visiting would not be directly obvious and only if you work long shift in the environment would become apparent. It is my opinion that this anti-gay-black-male attitude is empowered in the hope that the new employee, who does not fit into the specific demographic they want to cultivate, will leave the company within the first few weeks or months and they continue to keep the demographic they are comfortable with and they can claim that the employee left of his own accord. Secondly, there is an aversion to individuals who have any formal training and qualifications and/or who are experienced in the field of health care as these individuals are a threat to the nepotistic culture which has been allowed to develop and go unchecked at heron club. These trained individuals will be able to identify uncaring, unprofessional, lacking in their duty of care and abusive behavior of management which I have been witness & been victim to. If you will look into the reviews of a number of online employment sites you will find many ex-employees all say the same thing, which goes along the line of; you wont go far in this company if you are not in with the management crowd.Connected to the initial orientation training there is a lack of ongoing developmental training for employees currently employed. I have seen in staff who have been doing the job for many years has lost their enthusiasm for care for residents and one of the reasons for this is there is no ongoing training and refresh training courses to give them some perspective about the important work they are doing for the vulnerable adult they care for in the community.Because of the poor orientation training and lack of ongoing developmental training, most of the staff see themselves as glorified babysitters for adults. Many of the staff have gotten to the point of thinking that simply turning up to work, is their job.Moral of the story. I am a former employee. Many loved ones died before their time due to neglect & abandonment. Ive even witness residents getting wrong meds/ no meds. Its a hostile work environment and a hostile environment to live in. Poor management, during this time of the pandemic Ive been told its even worst for many of your loved ones. Being that you cant visit them during the COVID-19. Its horrible!!!!

My mother was taken out of here by police and forced into a hospital for care due to the incompetence of this facility, with dementia patients. She was placed in the hospital in the middle of Covid19 without any family or friends able to visit. The facility intentionally did this after lockdown and while I was out of town, without my permission. There are two former employees who provide reviews here and although they both deserved to be gone, their comments are accurate. My mom weighed 100lbs when she arrived at the new facility. She now has gained 20lbs and is always happy, bathes regularly and eats her meals. The new facility actually provides psychiatric care, which is what memory patients need. Heron Club simply kept calling her doctor and asking to increase meds, which according to new mental health caregiver, was making her worse and keeping her drugged. Keep your family away from this facility if they have memory issues. There is no training for this type of illness and if you complain to the government, they retaliate and call ambulance or police to take your family out by force.

Unfortunately the new management company that took over this property has no experience in senior care. The RDO Robert does not care about the residents and only about numbers. Since this company took over this property they cant keep any management in place and turn over is extremely high. They have had more than 4 executive directors in the past two years and multiple nursing directors. SRI management runs the building with not enough staff and pays very low rates which means you have under qualified staff caring for double the residents compared to qualified staff in other facilities. If you want your loved one to be just a number and not a human then this is the place for you. Robert Jenkins speaks down to all employees as well as other upper management which is why staff turnover is very high. This is sad for the residents because they never get to build meaningful relationships with the staff. If you are considering putting your loved one at an SRI managed property I highly advise that you do your homework. I would hate the thought of putting my loved one in this property and am only trying to help keep others from such bad care.

I visited my great aunt in the Heron Club this past week and I wanted to let staff know how I felt. They were great and really seemed to care about residnets. My aunt had a stomach issue and the head director was a big help with making sure my aunt had the right type of food she could eat. That really means alot. Thank you all for what you do.
