When placing a parent in an ALF, quality of care is of the utmost importance. But if that care is not accompanied by honesty and integrity then it can be uncertain. I placed my mom at Hampton Manor Deerwood earlier this year because she fell in love with the people and facility. She was initiially resistant to leaving her home but after a couple of visits she began telling her neighbors that she was excited about her move. After her last visit she realized that she had misplaced her opal ring, a family heirloom that was quite valuable. We looked everywhere to no avail. Realizing the last time she wore it was at Hampton Manor, we called to ask if it had been found. The receptionist said she would look and ask around. We had little hope that it would be found. After all, a small ring is easy to conceal and pawn later. The next day we received a call from the administrator saying the ring had been found by one of the nursing assistants and returned to the front desk. Realizing we were dealing with honest folks, there was no other choice but to move her immediately into Hampton Manor Deerwood (HMD). Although she only ended up staying for about a month (before moving to long-term care), the care and attention she received was outstanding. The final thing that sealed our love for HMD had to do with the initial down payment we paid to secure a room for her. Because she only stayed a month, Peter was very kind to refund a large portion. He didn't have to. There was no requirement in the agreement to do so. In fact, we were pretty sure that the deposit was lost. But the ownership of HMD did the right thing and provided a refund. This is a quality operation, folks. They provide quality care, are cheerful and helpful in doing it, and they operate under the Golden Rule: 'Do unto others as you would want them to do to you'. Thank you, Peter and staff...

This commentary is more of a reflection of the marketing department and how they handled my particular situation. I am a musician who was contacted by Hampton Manor Deerwood to play an event for their assisted living facility on December 6th this week. I drastically lowered my rates to just a $100 budget because I have personal experience with assisted living facilities and have a soft spot for the residents. As a professional courtesy I typically contact the event venue a few days before to see if they have any special needs or requirements. When I did this I was told the person who booked me is no longer there and somebody else was hired to play the music. This may not sound like a big deal to some but I rely on my income for music primarily and when I block off a date for one venue I turn down other dates for others even if they are a higher dollar value I have already committed to this event. Since it is the holiday season I definitely turn down quite a few. To just be told sorry that person doesn't work here anymore it's highly irregular and extremely unprofessional on behalf of Hampton Manor who should have compensated me the measly $100 budget even if they wanted the other person to play. I will now take this to my 20,000 person Facebook and then my Instagram and then Yelp and make sure everybody knows particularly vendors that this is how they handle situations like this.

I understand Laura Politz is now working at Hampton Manor Deerwood ALF. You are so fortunate to have an amazing woman working for you. Laura was the Executive Director at Brentwood at Fore Ranch when my father was living there. She knew the residents, took care of all their needs and stayed in touch with families like ours that were out of town. My Dad had a stroke and Laura saved his life with being right on top of everything in the short window we had to reverse the stroke. Once Laura left Brentwood the facility went down hill very quickly including my Dad who has now passed. We have know Laura for the past 4 years. She is very talented and organized. We wish her the best with her new position with Hampton Manor.
