Abruptly and unexpectedly, our 90 year-old Mom needed to move from an Independent Living complex in Orange where she had lived for 4 years, because of a sudden verbal(!) issue. My sister and I had to act fast. We visited 4 different facilities nearby, but only one felt like home: Silverado Tustin.Which is probably why we ultimately chose Silverado. It just felt right. And making that choice proved to be one of the best things we ever did for our Mom.Change is never easy, particularly when you're old. But the staff at Silverado was magnificent from Day 1. Our mother's first month was terribly hard, but the Director assured us they would surround her with love, and they did. It didn't happen overnight but Silverado became her home, where she felt safe and cared for. She loved the pets at the facility and the pets that other residents sometimes brought with them; she loved the food; she loved family and staff's visiting children (they're always welcome); and she loved the front garden and the inner courtyard, where she & I (and others!) would spend hours together, enjoying the birds, the butterflies, the weather and the planes. And my family came to love the caring and discrete medical support provided her 24/7, and even more the mental stimulus- there's live music (wonderful!), daily activities, off-site outings, and they do everything possible to engage residents with the staff and each other. And to my greater surprise, they even took care of me. There are twice-monthly Family Connection meetings where I met the families of other residents, all of whom I've grown to deeply respect. They helped me immensely in living with my Mom as she aged; and the meetings gave me the opportunity to sometimes reciprocate and help others.Last, our Mom passed at home- at Silverado Tustin- with myself & my sister at her side. Not by herself, alone, at a hospital. Not everyone can be that lucky, but I will never be able to thank the staff at Silverado Tustin enough for how they treated our Mom, and our family, during that time. It was probably then when I truly understood how much the staff cared for and loved not just her, but our family. And when I realized Silverado- the staff, the residents, many of the other families- had really become part of my family too. It's been a year since my Mom passed. But I still stop by at least twice a month for Family Connection meetings. They're still helpful. But more importantly, they give me a chance to honor the staff for all that they do, and also to occasionally help other people as they either continue- or begin- this journey with their loved ones. I will never be able to thank Silverado- and all the terrific people who ARE that wonderful enterprise- enough.

When my father needed memory care our family searched for the right facility and decided on Sunrise, Fullerton. Within 3 weeks they sent him out to the hospital 3 times due to combativeness which resulted in falls and injury. Sunrise left us high and dry when they made it impossible with rate increases and 24 hour family supervision. We found Silverado Tustin and everything changed. They cared and dad responded. The staff from top to bottom could not have been better. I told my children if I need memory care to just deliver me to Silverado.

The 'Gold Standard' of care for people with memory impairment. My Mom lived at Silverado Tustin Hacienda for three and one half years. While she was there she was able to participate as she chose in any and all activities. When she first moved in she was part of the Nexus community and participated in activities that promote continuing brain skills. She especially enjoyed the writers club and the excursions to local eateries and the movies! A shared room was a huge benefit- when she was hospitalized she wanted to go home and make sure that her roommate was okay. As her disease progressed she exhibited some behaviors that sometimes occur with people who have dementia. The Silverado caregivers worked to understand why she was exhibiting the behaviors and then finding a way to diminish them. This is different from many places where they request that the family hire a 24 hour individual caregiver, at an additional expense, and if the behavior continues they frequently ask for the resident to be moved out of the community! Silverado was my mom's home and they supported her and her entire family. They encourage family to visit whenever they choose to visit and enjoy meals with their loved ones. Everyone is family and this IS home. At the end of her life my mom was able to do what she said she wanted to do- live to the end of her life in her home, surrounded by those that she loved and that loved her. What could be better?

I have had many happy families that have chosen Silverado Tustin for their loved ones with Dementia. It is the Gold Standard for care. They have a wonderful nexus program and the staff is trained in how to handle all levels of dementia. I have been an RN for over 30 years and placement professional for the last 6 years. It can be difficult to find a memory care community that handles medical and behavioral issues. They have nurses, doctors, and social workers to assist residents and families. I never have to worry about a client when a family chooses Silverado!
