Just visited the facility 4 days ago, very nice property, was going to refer to a friend, but after reading the bad experiences of a lady and her mother that was going to leave the community, not sure if should still doing the referral? Also, why the executive director and bad staff are still in job and not being evaluated? Where are the complaints? These abusive and ridiculous behaviors should not been accepted at all, especially in a senior facility!

My mother checked out several facilities. She chose this one based on the size of the units and the location. I have visited and eaten with her. The staff is very friendly and knew her name when she had not even been there very long. The food is excellent and served in a restaurant atmosphere. The residents all seem to like living there. My mother first had a one bedroom unit but decided she wanted more space so she moved into a two bedroom unit and has a nice view of San Francisco. She has a large closet that I would love to have myself. The facility has a gym, a beauty salon, a hot tub in the center courtyard, a movie room, library and game room. There are lots of activities and you can be as active as you want to be or not want to be. Overall I must say I am very impressed. The whole place has the appearance of a hotel. It doesn't look or smell like some of the assisted living places I have seen. It is the type of senior living facility where I would want to live.

My mother has been living here for five months. We are moving her out in the upcoming week not because the facility doesn't meet quality standards; it is actually a very nice place, but because of the management team. Particularly Byron Sakanari the 'Executive Director' . When my mother moved in her rent was around $5000 a month. Very expensive I know, one of the highest costing assisted living places in the Bay Area. My mother liked the facility and the welcoming staff which included the marketing specialist that no longer is working their. Within the first three months my mother's rent has gone up to a whopping $9000 a month. They base that on the amount of care you need, in my moms case she needs a lot of care but that is the purpose of being in a assisted living. Now if you are paying $9000 a month you should expect excellent care and everything to be taken care of as needed, yet my mother still has to hire outside help to do simple things like give her a shower, help her to the restroom. .... because if the staff at peninsula del rey gives her a shower they charge extra. If she doesn't get out of bed early enough for breakfast, they charge extra to bring her food to her room.... the list goes on and on for charges after charges.....My mother is also in a scooter to get around. She needs help to get in and out of this scooter. The staff has to open her door for her in order for her to come and go as she pleases. She has called me crying before because the nursing staff opened her front door to let her in and when she told this person she needs to go to the bathroom she was told,' I'll be back in a little while. ' that 'little while' turned into two hours. No one came. She called me crying asking me to come over and help her because she had a accident all over herself.... and she's paying $9000 a month. What is a scarry scenario would be if their was a fire inside of my mom's place and she was in her scooter. She would not be able to escape her room and if the nurses don't come when she calls them would they come if their was a fire? Most of the nurses are rude and uncompationate and have even had the nurve to call my mother fat and tell her she needs to loose weight. Her self esteem has been badly damaged. She has been ridiculed, put down, forgotten about, and ignored by these people. Now back to Byron.... he particularly has been the one to embarrass and harrass my mother . He is a very unfriendly and enjoys the negativity that he persuades others to do. He has told me to my face that he doesn't like ne or my daughter and that he doesn't want us their. He has sent out multiple emails to staff telling them not to let my daughter in. A lot if the staff and residents are fed up with him. It is the staff that told me about the emails being sent out about my daughter. He said to me that he sent me COUNTLESS messages about my daughter, yet I have not received one! He got irate with me when I questioned him why does he continue to harrass my mother and make her feel threatened. He got in my face yelling at me. I asked him who he thinks he is and he relplyed ,'I'M THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THIS FACILITY AND THESE ARE MY RESIDENTS, I DON'T LIKE YOU OR YOUR FAMILY DON'T COME BACK HERE!' He is very intimidating and has no compassion towards others. He has no social skills. Not once out of all the five months that my mother was a resident did he ever say hello or any type of positive communication to my entire family including my mom. The only conversations that were had was all a negative experience. This facility is 1/4 full with over 400 rooms and only a little over 100 are occupied. The reason being; Byron. If this facility wants to grow and prosper it needs to get rid of its 'executive director' and start fresh with a true leader.
