My mom just moved here and seems to like the Townsend house, lots of activities to do. Still says the veggies are not cooked enough, but we all know you cook the vitamins out if you cook too much maybe one day there will be a happy medium. :)

My father was a resident of the Townsend House for almost 12 years. He was always treated with love and respect. The management and staff treated him as part of their family. They were incredibly attentive to his needs. They knew immediately when he was not feeling well and would communicate to me and his doctor. Their attentiveness kept dad out of the hospital many times. Dad was not always the most congenial person and at times could be difficult, but the management and staff were always able to turn the grumpy guy to smiles! He loved playing poker, the exercise program, the mens breakfast outings, Christmas Parties and special dinners. At the end of dads life they were so supportive and helpful. I do not know what I would have done without them.I cannot say enough good things about the Townsend House. They were family to me also.

Three years ago I visited several small, medium and larger assisted living residences in Chico, California for my mom. Townsend House, as a medium sized place (30 to 35 residents), offered everything I was looking for: It was large enough to support numerous in-house activities (Bingo, Current event discussions, Group crosswords, Varieties of card games, etc.), yet small enough that the staff would know each resident intimately. Residents range in abilities and are very supportive of one another. The atmosphere is that of a home rather than a care facility. Meals are communal; medications are administered by staff; there are endless opportunities to engage in activities; singers and other groups visit to entertain (During Halloween, local elementary kids trick-or-treat at each residents door); and, once or twice a month residents who wish to, are taken on a field trip to see almond blossoms, Christmas lights, Farmers Market, lunch, etc. Celebrations are organized for holidays such as Christmas, Mothers Day, St Patricks, etc., and family is encouraged to join in. The staff is comprised of angels. They are professional and friendly, know each resident by name, and genuinely care about the well-being of each resident. All residents are treated with respect. The basic fees are fairly competitive, but there are add-ons for additional care (assistance with dressing, bathing, monitors for wandering, etc.) the owner is very open about discussing the bottom line expenses. Overall, I couldnt be more pleased with moving my mom to Townsend. One day when she passes, I will look back knowing she was happy, safe, and well cared for her last few years.
