I am not one to write negative reviews - however, this one cannot be avoided. Also, raw emotion is factored in but facts are facts. My dad stayed 16 days in the SNF here. From the beginning we had issues with response time from nurses (according to him), however that issue was straightened out and we personally apologized to staff for possibly being misinformed. We did end up getting 24 hour sitters - which is truly sad. That should not be a necessity - but unfortunately we felt better having them. He fell going to the bathroom one night because no one had come to help him. I will say the day nurses were good and attentive - especially his last 5-6 days. We did have hospice care and they came every day and seemed to work ok with nursing staff. There are many many unanswered questions surrounding his death, of which we cannot get anyone to talk with us. On the night of his death, we received a call asking which hospice company our dad was using. Without questioning this, we informed them and asked if it was an emergency and was told yes. We live 7 minutes from The Oaks. Before we could get there (we IMMEDIATELY got in our car), our sitter called to say he had passed. When we arrived, a CNA was cleaning out his room and immediately left. We asked the nurse, who was at her station and not in his room, why she didn't know the hospice company. Her response was 'I don't work this hall and I couldn't find it on his chart'. Of course, once the hospice company got there, she checked his chart and a huge sticker was on it. His nurse on duty NEVER checked on us or expressed any concern. When my sister went to ask for some water for us - she pointed to a CNA and said 'she'll get it for you' and turned to answer a question from a co-worker - of which her response was - 'I don't care who is coming - I'm leaving at 11!'. We can only assume she was talking about hospice and the funeral home. There literally was one nurse/aid that came into the room and expressed any compassion to us - and later I thanked her very much. As I stated, there are MANY unanswered questions surrounding his death. Our sitter said she called for a nurse when she saw he was struggling and no one showed up. She went to the station to get someone and no one was around. He apparently passed before anyone got in there. His death was imminent, but hospice had said he was not in transition yet. And, we feel robbed that we were not there with him at his passing. I cannot speak to what happened while we weren't there. What I can speak to is the unbelievable lack of compassion from these people. The next week, I called to speak with someone in administration. She did talk with me and said she would email the Executive Director and the Director of Nursing in the SNF and one would call me back. We have not had any response or correspondence from them yet. I'm assuming the only correspondence we will have will be the bill we receive from them. Our mother was in SNF at Brookdale on Lakeshore. When she passed, we received so much compassion from them so there is no comparison. As I stated, his death was imminent, but The Oaks lack of compassion and the unanswered questions has made it that much harder. I would NEVER recommend them and my outlook might have changed and this review never been written had someone reached out.

I would give them 0 stars if that rating was available!First off, I know sometimes due to circumstance or just life in general we are at times forced to depend on Nursing/Rehabilitation Centers to take care of our loved ones, but I can not stress this enough, do your research before putting a person you care about in one of these facilities!! The Oaks is the worst healthcare facility Ive ever stepped foot into. The staff and management are extremely rude, and just flat out mean to patients. Patients are left sitting in their own urine for hours on end because they are too lazy to change them. Some meals never showed up, and when they did happen to show up, it could only be described as warmed/cold garbage. Medications are not dispensed as needed or show up hours late. Bedding isnt changed. Physical Therapy equipment isnt sanitized, which is just disgusting. And they have thieves among their staff that will steal from you. I could keep going on and on, but you get the picture. My main concern First, is my family member but second, is the precious elderly people in there with no family to check on them daily and are rotting away in a facility that is not taking care of them. I cant imagine how the staff is treating the ones that cant fend for themselves. Its heartbreaking. I just cant sit back and not say anything. If you have a loved one that is in this Rehabilitation/Nursing facility, check on them to make sure they are getting the kind of care they deserve or move them as soon as possible to a place they will be properly cared for!I would personally recommend never using the following facility:The Oaks on Parkwood - The Highlands(dont let the happy/fluffed up website fool you.)

Ive visited once or twice and it seemed to be a caring, well-kept facility.
